French Revolutionary War

The French Revolutionary Wars were a series of major conflicts that took place between 1792 and 1802, between the French Revolutionary government and many European countries. The French Revolutionary Army defeated enemy alliances in wars and expanded French dominance over the Low Countries, Italy, and the Rhineland thanks to the revolutionary spirit and military innovations of France. These wars mobilized enormous numbers of soldiers, mainly due to the modern adoption of mass conscription.

The French Revolutionary War was often divided into the War of the First Coalition (1792–1797) and the War of the Second Coalition (1798–1801), although France remained at war with Great Britain throughout. between 1793 and 1802. The Treaty of Amiens, which was signed in 1802, declared the war to be over, but the Napoleonic Wars soon followed, resuming hostilities. Although various other events before and after 1802 have been linked to the start of the Napoleonic Wars, the Treaty of Amiens is frequently considered as signaling the end of the War of the French Revolution.
